Are all stories Truly the Same?

For the last few weeks, we have been learning about intertextuality and the similarities that certain stories have towards one another. We have learned that there is almost no such thing as something that is truly "original" nowadays, having every single story ever made structured in some way to one that has already been written. Now this poses another question, are all stories the same?

I would say no. While many stories may be similar in structure or have similar plot points to another, I believe that each story is unique in its own way. For example, in How to read like a literary Professor article that we read in class almost all stories originate from somewhere before it. For example, if you were to write a western film even if you weren't thinking of having a big showdown, high noon, or a cattle drive your movie would still have them. Although this is all true authors and directors are able to put their own creative spin and imagination into their work. While it may have the same message as others they are able to bring you a story that may be a lot more compelling than another because of its setting or character. They are able to encapsulate their audience into a whole new world and you can only see similarities most of the time if you analyze thoroughly afterward.

Overall I believe that while a new story can have the same message and structure alike, it still can be very unique and allow for the reader/viewer to experience something that they couldn't ever before.
