Little Miss Sunshine

In the last few minutes of class after our in-class essay, Mrs. Feldkamp told us that we would be watching a movie called Little Miss Sunshine next time we had class. I searched up a quick little summary of the movie just to see what it was about and after reading it I thought to myself "what does this have to do with humor and tragedy?" After watching the movie I got to see how wrong I truly was.

The main topic shown in the movie that I got out of it was the connection between tragedy and humor and more specifically how they are a lot closer than you may think. The movie, in general, was very faced paced and would switch between a very nice and wholesome event to a more sad and depressing event. For example, we saw how it was very stressful for the Hoover family when they realized that Olive's grandfather had passed away, but almost immediately after that, we can hear that classic upbeat music start playing and then they pretty much kidnap his body from the hospital in order to attend Olive's competition. But wait there's more. After they get his body into the van and start driving away their car's horn breaks and starts honking very repetitively until a police officer pulls them over. This is a very tense situation for them, but when the police officer looks into the trunk he instead notices grandpa's porn magazines instead of the body and lets them off the hook.

Back and forth we see this endless flow of humor and tragedy constantly being thrown at us. This purgation of emotions makes the film very enjoyable even at the most awkward of times. Definitely one of the best films I have watched in all my English classes.
